    American jazz bassist, educator, and composer Rufus Reid's name appears on countless hard bop, bebop, swing, and even some pop sessions. His restrained yet emphatic and pungent tone, time, harmonic sensibility, and discernible, if understated, swing are welcome on any session. Rufus Reid has been nothing less than a household name in Jazz history for quite some time now. As a sideman he has worked with such artists as Jack DeJohnette, Thad Jones, Dexter Gordon, Andrew Hill and John Stubblefield. On his own he has earned many prestigious awards ranging from a Guggenheim Fellowship in the Creative Arts / Music Composition category; a Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Award ("Skies Over Emilia"), The Living Legacy Award, from The MidAtlantic Arts Foundation and The Distinguished Achievement Award from The International Society of Bassists.
